Into the woods

The alarm is set for 4am. I've tried to ready all my gear to make it easier. I already miss friends and new strangers. I've seen the country I'll travel tomorrow from the passenger side of a six wheeler. Lupine, yarrow, sage, Indian paint brush, great families of pronghorn. Twenty four miles to my next camp at "bug crick". This will be my first time being alone, really alone in many weeks. I can't say I am not nervous. I can't say I don't crave companionship. I don't know how much longer I'll go. But I want to cross one more state line in the saddle. Here we go. I suspect I'll be coming around the mountain in about three days. Chin up, straw hat in place, hearts propelling us westward and upward. We're off!
